What is Global Wave Of Light?

Global Wave of Light is an annual observance on October 15th to honor babies who have died during pregnancy, childbirth, or infancy. Participants worldwide light candles at 7:00 PM local time to create a wave of light that symbolizes love, remembrance, and unity. 🕯️💖 This powerful act provides comfort to families and raises awareness about the often silent grief of pregnancy and infant loss.

History of the Global Wave of Light

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month (1988)

In 1988, President Ronald Reagan declared October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, marking a significant moment for national recognition of the loss experienced by countless families. 💬

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day (2002)

In 2002, Robyn Bear, Lisa Brown, and Tammy Novak launched a campaign to recognize October 15th as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. This effort was supported by Concurrent Resolution 222 in 2006, and today, all 50 U.S. states participate in the annual observance. 📅

The Wave of Light (1997)

The Wave of Light began in 1997 with the first Worldwide Candle Lighting Day. At 7:00 PM local time, people light candles and keep them lit for at least one hour, creating a symbolic wave of light that travels across time zones around the world. 🌍
